Bio - Various Lengths

BIO 
Songwriter E. Christine Anderson (Chris ) plays guitar, harmonica and was the lead singer and songwriter for the “Harried Americans Band.” She is affiliated with BMI, and is a founding member and the producer of the "Harried Americans Roadshow", an Americana, Contemporary Folk & Roots variety show with original smarty-pants social reform songs, poetry and comedy. The Harried Americans performance of Chris’ original “Just Change The Boundary (The Gerrymander Song),” is featured in a documentary, “GerryRIGGED, Turning Democracy on Its Head,” produced by The Community Idea Stations and OneVirginia2021. In 2018, Chris' song “Just Change The Boundary” won GOLD in the Open category of the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. In 2019, it was included in the broadcast "Gerry-Rigged: A Cancer on Our Democracy", on the syndicated radio program, "With Good Reason", a project of higher education institutions and the Virginia Humanities featuring executive producer and host, Sarah McConnell.

In 2003,  Chris won a GRAMMY IN THE STREETS contest (sponsored by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and BMI ) for her song “Their Leader” from “WAiT – it’s a musical.” In addition to penning originals about religion, love and the human condition, Chris’ protest songs articulate what many are thinking – she has tackled oil spills, dysfunctional political leaders, gun control and propaganda, usually with poignancy or humor. 

Chris’ graduate-level coursework includes theological studies at Wesley Theological Seminary, play and script writing classes at American University, coursework at the Commercial Theater Institute (a project of Theatre Development Fund (TDF) and the Broadway League) and completion of a graduate certificate in Arts Entrepreneurship from George Mason University. Chris played guitar in church bands in the Washington D.C. area for over a decade. She has been a consultant to start-up church bands of various denominations, a player/singer in several D.C. area Americana bands and enjoys speaking at workshops.

 Virginia songwriter Chris Anderson, a life-long D.C. area suburbanite with family roots in the Delta, plays guitar, harmonica and, on occasion, bass, mandola or percussion. Her evocative songs are delivered with rich guitar leads, complex harmonica riffs, and a sense of fun – a style of playing that is uniquely her own.

Chris began playing guitar in Northern Virginia clubs in the early 1980’s.  She then spent over a decade playing in Northern Virginia church bands, and was a founding member of Americana trio Ladies Done Waiting who performed their three-part harmonies throughout the region before disbanding in 2014. 

In 2003, Chris won a Grammy in the Streets demo contest sponsored by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) and Broadcast Music International (BMI) for  her klezmer-esque pop tune Their Leader, from her Christmas project WAiT – It’s a Musical! .   The show has been nationally broadcast in its entirety on XM Radio, with live stage productions throughout the USA and in Austria, Germany, India, Nigeria and the Philippines. 

Chris is affiliated with performing rights organization BMI. Her music can be heard in the background of various Cable TV productions, including shows for the Travel Channel and The Women’s Entertainment Network (WeTv.) She released an EP of socially conscious songs, Just Change The Boundary (2018). Other releases include WAiT -It’s a Musical! (2004), Gonna Get Through It (2014) and Ladies Done Waiting (2013.)

Her EP – Just Change The Boundary – begins with an uptempo rocking harmonica lick, includes a poignant slow ballad about the state of Virginia, and ends with a polka about propaganda. (Yes, you read that right…a polka!)
